How are they made?

Wood pellets are compressed sawdust parcels held together entirely with lignin, which occurs naturally in wood and gives wood pellets their shiny appearance, no additives are required. 

Our wood pellets are entirely made from Pinus Radiata shavings, forestry, sawmilling and timber processing residue products sourced from New Zealand’s forestry and timber processing industries. This wood fibre is screened, ground, dried and compressed into wood pellets at Nature’s Flame purpose-built processing plant in Taupō, New Zealand. Once the pellets are formed and cooled, they are either packaged into 15kg bags for distribution to retailers or packaged into one tonne bags for bulk delivery. The majority of pellets are loaded straight onto a Nature’s Flame delivery truck as ‘loose bulk’ for transport to New Zealand clients and the global market.

Carbon Neutral

Biomass has the lowest carbon emissions of any fuel in NZ at 0.003 kgCO2e / kWh. The lower emissions result from the different life-cycle of biomass compared to fossil fuels. The carbon in natural gas or coal was previously captured underground and is released as new carbon when burned. Wood by-products used to produce wood pellets release, when they burn, exactly the same amount of CO2 that the trees have absorbed during their growth period.
