Wood pellets are designed to burn in special fires, or boilers, which are equipped with auger delivery systems that automatically deliver the pellets into a burn pot (in a wood pellet fire) or combustion chamber (in a boiler). This delivery system contributes to the extremely high combustion efficiency of the fuel and is key in reducing the emissions and ash produced when the fuel is burned.

A further benefit of wood pellet boilers is their ability to produce vast amounts of hot water for use in large central heating systems such as in a school, or for providing process heat for manufacturing processes, such as milk powder drying.

Delivery and storage benefits

Nature’s Flame wood pellets offer four delivery and storage benefits:

1. Fewer truck movements are required for delivery as compared to heavier fuel sources, due to the pellets’ high density.  
2. Only a small storage area is required, due to the compact size of Nature’s Flame wood pellets.
3. Due to the flow properties of wood pellets, the greater uniformity of pellets compared to coal they are easily moved through automated pneumatic and auger systems or blown through pipes from a long distance.
4. Our wood pellets are easily stored for long periods without degradation in a dry, covered environment such as silos or water tight coal bunkers.

Minimal waste

Another great benefit of using wood pellets is the minimal waste they leave behind in ash. For instance, one tonne of wood pellets produces around 15kg of ash. Compare this to around 80kg of ash waste per tonne of coal burned. 

Additionally, wood pellets create an organic ash that can be used as an input for fertiliser. Ash from Nature’s Flame wood pellets is certified as an input for organics by BioGro New Zealand Ltd.
